Construction Master Plan for the
Museum and Learning Center
at White Sands Missile Range
The Historical Foundation’s primary mission is to secure funding for a
permanent Museum and Learning Center at White Sands Missile Range that
will preserve and exhibit the artifacts and archival materials necessary
to memorialize and document the events, organizations, corporations, and
individuals who contributed to the history of outstanding achievements
at White Sands Missile Range.
The Studio D Architects of Las Cruces Site Master Plan provides a phased
approach that accommodates expansion in increments, and ensures
continuity of Museum operations with the addition of functionally
complete increments. The Master Plan retains the existing Administration
and Gift Shop building with a revised façade that is consistent with the
overall architectural image illustrated above—in the above rendition,
the existing building is the structure to the right with windows. The
architectural intent is that the southern half (right in the rendition)
reflects a merger of the styles and colors of the current Museum
Administration and Gift Shop Building with those of other buildings
visible to the South. The northern half is intended to preserve some of
the traditional lines, colors and features, and transition to the high
technology lines and shapes of the missiles and rockets on display in
the Missile Park immediately to the North.

Phase I is a 7,971 square foot, environmentally controlled Exhibit Hall
and reception area that functionally replaces the current temporary
Exhibit Hall, but retains the structure for other uses until Phase III
expansion. The Phase I Exhibit Hall and entrance are the front
structures illustrated in the left half of the rendition.
Phase II is a 10,948 square foot Exhibit Hall and Theater addition.
Combined, the Phase I and II Exhibit Hall additions double the exhibit
floor space of the current 6,000 sq ft temporary facility. In addition,
the proposed Exhibit Halls will provide two to three times the current
Exhibit Hall vertical space with a perimeter observation mezzanine.
Phase III provides a 8,743 square foot Resource and Learning Center,
which includes archives and storage. Construction of Phase III requires
removal of the temporary building that is the current Exhibit Hall.
The vision of the Foundation is to secure funding for the expansion of
the Museum and Learning Center at White Sands Missile Range. Its
immediate goal is to raise the funds necessary for construction of the
Master Plan’s Phase I. Your participation in this project will be
greatly appreciated. The form linked at the bottom of this page can be
