Evolved SeaSparrow Missile (ESSM)
In 1997 the Navy began testing of the NATO supported ESSM ship launched short range weapon designed to provide self protection for surface ships against anti-ship cruise missiles and aircraft. The ESSM has a solid propellant rocket motor, uses tail control and has semi active homing capability.
